The Apple and the Pear

Being quite bored at work, as I was waiting for feedback from a colleague, I decided to spend some time fooling around with some Microsoft tools. That’s how I stumbled upon Windows Live Writer.

It’s quite typical of Microsoft to approach a task like that of writing a blog post in the way that they did with Windows Live Writer, i.e. through a standard desktop application. One would say that it is weird or maybe just another example of the fact that Microsoft is still not getting it - a desktop app for writing blog content? However, I think this is brilliant. Yes, a desktop app, that standardizes the way that you write your blog posts, exposes a series of rich editing and formatting capabilities, and in the end of the day, makes posting a new entry as easy as saving a Word document.

Oh, and it works with almost every blogging service!

I came across iBush while browsing through the Macintosh Software section in the Demonoid.com torrent directory.

iBush is “an artificially unintelligent Oval Office Occupant simulator”. The current version (v2.4) ofers unique capabilities, such as the ability to talk nonsense about the most interesting issues, such as “Weapons of Mass Destruction”, “Waging war against Iraq”, “America’s Israeli Friends” and “America’s Arab Friends”. The recent release of the code has been updated in order to say the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about what happened in Ohio.

This is also the first piece of software that I’ve come across that is distributed through a beggarware license, that is, you are required to buy a homeless person a EUR5.00 meal if you decide to use it

iBush is currently only available on Mac OSX, but for those who have still to discover the truth, a CGI version is available somewhere
